Programs for school

The Museum undertakes education programs in conjunction with institutions of learning in Kanazawa.

Museum Cruise

This is an art appreciation program in which fourth-grade pupils are invited in turn from elementary schools in Kanazawa City. It aims to familiarize children with their local art museum and develop sensitive hearts and minds as they engage with a variety of contemporary art. The children are divided into small groups and discuss collection exhibition while viewing them with volunteers, after which they are free to look around the museum on their own. Held for the tenth year running in 2015, it is an important ongoing cooperative program for both the local elementary schools and the museum.

Marubi Art School

Aimed at turning the museum into a classroom and strengthening ties between the museum and local schools, this program has been ongoing since fiscal 2011. Artists, junior high schools and the museum cooperate in creating a space for junior high school students to create and present art. As well as holding a series of five workshops on the theme of “Thinking the way you think” with invited artists TSUBAKI Noboru and Shirokuma Sensei and around 40 students from the art circles at three junior high schools in Kanazawa, we also held exhibitions and talks based on the results of these workshops, which were also published as a document. The program dealt with a different motif each year. In 2013 it was “Magical Home,” in 2014 it was “Magical Light,” and in 2015 it was “Magical Time.”
