About
“ROJŌ ENGEI (street gardening)” refers to the sight of plants spilling out into small corners along shopfronts, under eaves, and by the roadside. Here in Kanazawa as well, many people arrange potted plants in parts of their living spaces and cultivate them with care.
This plastic bottle has been prepared in connection with the exhibition “ROJŌ [shared ground] ― am i in your way?”, together with participating artist Ayako Murata, as a tool to help care for potted plants across the city. During the exhibition period, original planters have been installed throughout Kanazawa.
With bottle in hand, we invite you to walk through the city and look for planters bearing the “ROJŌ ENGEI” logo. In familiar street-gardening fashion, a variety of vegetables are planted in repurposed plastic pickling tubs. If you come across them, please feel free to water them using the bottle.
Street gardening is a landscape that colors everyday life in the city. Through the simple act of watering, we hope you will experience Kanazawa not only as a tourist destination, but also as a place of lived daily life.
