Special Issue: Museums and Sustainability
This issue’s special feature is “Museum and Its Neighbors.” Designed with the concept of a “Museum open to the city like a park,” the museum marked its 20th anniversary in 2024, and a major renovation is planned for next year. In light of this milestone, we believe it is crucial to reexamine the concept critically. The museum is a popular tourist destination, bustling with nearly two million annual visitors, yet its value as a “park” lies not merely in the sheer number of visitors. In addition to excitement, it oers a distance free from social interaction, and, sometimes, a coexisting relationship while remaining indifferent. This special feature explores the relationship between the museum and its public nature from the perspective of “neighbors.”
